CSG Christmas Tree

The festive season is officially underway at CSG thanks to the creative efforts of three talented Year 7 students—Aphra, Alice and Lillian—who took on the special task of decorating the foyer Christmas tree kindly donated by CASCA this week.

Much Ado About Nothing" – Sixth Form Play!

We are delighted to invite you to ‘Much Ado About Nothing'.

Shakespeare’s comedy entwines the stories of two sets of lovers, the innocent Hero and Claudio, and Beatrice and Benedick, whose barbed wordplay disguises their real feelings. Dastardly plotting and an incompetent amateur police force add to the fun, alongside a string of live 1980s songs performed by our fantastic student bands.

Performances will be 7pm on Wednesday 17 & Thursday 18 December.
Tickets are on ParentPay at £6.

Improving PE for Muslim girls

Last Tuesday, me and 9 other students had the opportunity to go to the West Ham stadium (a dream come true for me) for a conference on Improving PE for Muslim Girls run by the Muslim Sports Foundation, Youth Sports Trust, Nike and the FA. We are one of only 30 schools in the whole country to be invited to take part in this project!

We had the opportunity to see some inspiring Muslim women talk about their journey to becoming Muslim athletes, which was really interesting. They are all successful in their different sports, with one even moving to LA to work for Apple Fitness and Nike!

We then talked in groups about things we thought we could do differently in school to help more Muslim girls be involved in PE clubs and matches, and will be working with the PE department to make some changes.

It was really amazing for me to see so many Muslim girls in one small room, all interested in each other's stories and encouraging each other to stay involved in sport, even if people tell them you can’t.

My advice for all of you is to keep trying hard, and you can achieve what you want, no matter what race you are and no matter what colour you are!

Winter Concert

The Winter Concert last week was a huge success, with fantastic performances from our Symphony Orchestra, Big Band, Junior Jazz Band, Junior Strings, as well as our spectacular Junior, Senior and A Cappella choirs, a Year 9 Band and virtuosic solo violinist Dora from Year 13. It was wonderful to hear such breadth of musical styles performed so beautifully by students from all year groups. The concert was ably presented by our Music Ambassadors. Congratulations to all involved!

A Christmas Carol at the Old Vic

We had an amazing time on our trip to see A Christmas Carol at the Old Vic!

The play itself was a perfect mix of interesting, funny and a bit sad with amazing costumes and effects. We also got free mince pies, which was a great surprise. Tiny Tim was very sweet and got a huge round of applause at the end. A really interesting feature of the show was handbell music played by the actors, which involved each person ringing one of their bells at a certain time to create Christmas carols and other music.

The workshop afterwards, delivered by the Old Vic, was equally amazing. We did a costume centred workshop which involved deciding what fabrics suited which characters and seeing the original sketches for the ghosts’ costumes. We even got to create our own shirt inspired by a party scene using fabric, lace and ribbon. Overall, the whole experience was very fun, and I am so glad to have had this opportunity.

Thank you Ms E-P and the Old Vic!
