Love Your Climate Conference

A group of Year 9 students attended the Love Your Climate Conference run by the organisation, Camden Think and Do. They joined other schools in Camden to discuss issues around climate change and made valuable contributions towards Camden Council's 5-year sustainability plan. Here is what they thought about the event.

Ms Toman

Amelie: "The event was a great opportunity for us to interact with Camden Council, and share our honest thoughts with them about what they can do better to fix the Climate Crisis. I think the organisation of meetings such as this should take place more often, and should be taken more seriously, as students are the ones who live in Camden, so it's good that we had our say! Overall, the morning was fun and interactive. I would definitely do it again."

Lila: "I had a great time at the Love Your Climate event because we were able to interact with lots of other schools with great ideas and also voice our own ideas. There were many council members and other important people there, and they all listened to the things we had to say, and it seemed as if they were really trying to think of ways that they could put our ideas into play in Camden."

Manuela - Jane: "The Love Your Climate event was enjoyable! I found it to be interesting and educational, and it was amazing to understand how we can change our neighbourhood. My favourite activity was when we sat in groups and spoke about societal concerns; it was stimulating and fascinating!"

Wahidah: "The trip was really fun. I loved being able to discuss and debate ideas with the people there, and being able to talk with people from the Camden Council was definitely a great experience! I also loved how the trip got us to mix with other schools. We got to make new friends while talking about problems systematically, but it was still fun! I'd definitely go to events like this again."

Naima: "The Love your climate meeting was a fresh start where all of us felt listened to and felt like we had a say. We met so many wonderful people, and we felt reassured that we weren’t the only ones a bit scared by the crisis. Everyone was so lovely, and it was so important for us to be able to talk to the council and let them know what we would like to see. We started with conversations with other schools and then got into groups and discussed what was important to us and what we would like to see. In the end, many of us left feeling excited about what's to come."

Shaylar: "The trip was really fun because I liked being able to put out and discuss ideas with all the others that were on the trip, and it was nice to see that Camden Council are trying their best to find solutions to the climate problem. I would totally go on other trips like this because it was very engaging!"

Year 12 Geography Fieldtrip to Sussex

At the end of March, the Geography Department took 34 A level students to East Sussex to study coastal landforms, beach morphology and coastal management, as well as gaining some invaluable fieldwork skills needed for their coursework.

The students worked hard and the weather just about held, although at times our views were somewhat obscured by the rolling sea fog.

A good time was had by all.

Sixth Form Trip to 'Backstroke' at Donmar Warehouse

On Tuesday 1 April, Year 12 and 13 Drama students were treated to an evening of warmth, laughter and deeply moving performances by the cast of 'Backstroke' at the Donmar Warehouse, led by Tamsin Greig and Celia Imrie. The play follows the last days of Bo's mother's life when she is in hospital after a stroke, interspersed with flashbacks of her childhood growing up with her eccentric and flamboyant mother, Beth, and tracks her eventual Alzheimer's diagnosis. The play's complex and emotive relationships, characters and themes were played with such stunning, vivid brilliance that the whole theatre of students was enthralled.

We are very fortunate to be able to be a part of Donmar's outreach work, meaning that our drama students get free shows and workshops from this world-class theatre!

Students were also delighted to be able to attend a post-show Q&A with the whole cast and some of the stage management team. They were given beautiful insights into the rehearsal process, anecdotes about what happens behind the scenes and advice for those looking to enter the industry.

A wonderful last trip for our Year 13's before they embark on their exams!
